I recently had the wonderful opportunity to talk to Kevin Hofmann, the author of "Growing Up Black in White." Kevin's warm-hearted book draws attention to the difficulty of growing up as a person of color in racially-charged Detroit in 1967 and how easy it is to give in to the pressures of social labeling and prejudice. With humor and humility, Kevin shows us that the best response when we are pigeon-holed by others, is to grow through it and develop the resiliency, self-respect, and personal identity that will define us as individuals in that process.
