Why do so many people tolerate being unhappy at work?

Listen Later

Golden handcuffs. Too exhausted to look for something different. The belief that the next job could be worse. Feeling like the job market is so bad they will never find another job.

When I worked in corporate, I stayed in jobs because they were just that, jobs. I never believed they were a career. I just wanted to pay my bills.

As challenging and unfair as some of my bosses were, I was never really that miserable.

But I know people who are. They dread going to work every day; in the extreme to the point of feeling sick.

I wondered what might cause people to choose to stay in a job like that so I asked Sarah Sears, Frank Galindo and Jim Tam for their thoughts.

Have you ever stayed in a job you hated? Why did you stay? If you are in a job you hate now and would rather PM me your story, feel welcome to do so.
