Why do we fail to complete our business goals?

Listen Later

In this episode of The Overgivers Anonymous Podcast, I want to talk about a touchy question you may have asked yourself… “why do I always fail to complete my business goals?”. Ouch. It's a tough question to ask yourself, but at the end of the day, there are some very clear reasons as to why, as business owners, we tend to fail the completion process. We create our goals, but then they tuck them away in a drawer and file them. THAT is the number one reason why your business goals are failing. As much as your brain likes the process of you writing things down and subconsciously you “sort of” work towards your goals, unless you're actually taking steps on a daily basis towards accomplishing your goals, it's going to take a lot longer than a year to accomplish them.

Highlights:

The reason why most business owners fail to accomplish goals is because of the “set it and forget it” mode. You must “check-in” often.
You need to break goals into small enough chunks so that when you're working on them on a daily basis towards your end game and not just working from a state of just being busy.
I could spend 40/80 hours a week just getting stuff done because there's always lots of stuff to get done. The tasks that I'm so diligently checking off every single day must be based on my goals so I can actually reach my final goal.
We perceive the direction of our goal and then we take action to make it happen. Our first attempt is never the last. Don't be afraid of falling on your face. Don't be afraid of taking actions that do not work. Remember taking action is how you learn what you need to do to reach your goal.
I love the differences between having a goal that feels comfortable, a goal that's a little more uncomfortable, and the one that's really uncomfortable (scary!). The more uncomfortable we become, the more we grow.
You will never find out what works for you if you are “sitting back and waiting”. You must take action steps to reach your goal.
I could launch a new product tomorrow and there is a chance it could fall flat and nobody ever buys it. But nobody will know. Unless I tell them. Do you see where I am going with this? A lot of this fear of falling, this fear of failing, or this fear of not actually accomplishing something is unfounded. Nobody is going to know you didn’t get the results you wanted unless you tell them. So just don't tell them.

I hope you take your BIG GOAL for 2024 and break it out into much smaller goals. Revisit your 2024 goals quarterly, monthly and weekly so you are constantly working from a state of non-negotiables. If you're always working on tasks that you know are tied to your overall goals you have a greater chance of succeeding. If you need help with your 2024 we are here to support you in the Rockstar World.
