Ghouls, goblins, witches, and werewolves, they're terrifying. And most likely not real. But we humans have been attracted to fear they and other monsters have instilled in us for millennia. We're the only species intellectual enough to conjure up such stories, and thus the only species to also find it enthralling to explore these imaginings.

But why?

Let's talk about that in this Halloween bonus episode to kick off my favorite holiday of the year (even in 2020). Today we talk about some of the science behind feeling scared, while tomorrow and Saturday, Devil's night and Halloween respectively, will be for sharing spooky stories found on Reddit. I'll be joined by my wife for the first night, but then I go solo. Prepare an extra pair of pants!
