The first thing that obviously comes
to mind is to put food on the table, a roof over our heads, and to care for our
families. But when you think about it, those are more of what are we working
for, rather than why do we work.
The reason you do things is
important. In his excellent books "Start With Why" and "The
Infinite Game," Simon Sinek make a very powerful argument for the
importance of understanding your "Why." Understanding your purpose.
It's especially important to
understand your Why when the going gets tough. When things aren't going as
planned. When it feels like the world is conspiring against you. When you're
emotionally exhausted, your tank is empty, and you're having trouble getting
out of bed in the morning. When you're ready to quit.
