Radical Truth

Why does it cost more to be poor? w/ Ady Beitler

Listen Later

In this episode of TBLI Radical Truth, we sit down with Ady Beitler, co-founder and CEO of Nilus — a social enterprise dismantling the "poverty penalty" by making healthy food affordable in low-income communities and food deserts across Latin America.

Through technology-driven disintermediation, food rescue, and community group buying, Nilus is proving that inefficient supply chains are a choice, not a necessity. Ady shares the logistics, the tech stack, and the human story behind a model delivering dignity, nutrition, and scale to the world's most underserved markets.

In this episode:

  • The poverty penalty — why those with the least often pay the most for basic goods
  • How Nilus uses technology to bypass expensive middlemen and broken supply chains
  • How community-led group buying drives down food costs in favelas
  • Food rescue — turning surplus waste into affordable nutrition
  • The real challenges of last-mile logistics in underserved communities
  • Ady's journey from international development to high-growth social enterprise
  • What scaling impact across Latin America actually looks like

The key insight: The poverty penalty isn't inevitable. Inefficient supply chains are a design failure — and technology can fix them.
