On the 13th episode of The Matters Of The Heart podcast, I have the pleasure of having the amazing Bunmi Akindiji in our midst. She's a Nigerian living in the UK. Married with 2 kids. Bunmi has a special love for Christ. She enjoys reading, cooking and swimming. She likes meeting new people and catching up with old friends.
Bunmi who dated her husband for 7 years before they got married took us down memory lane with her relationship and marriage journey. She stressed that they met in the weirdest of circumstances and that it wasn't love at first sight but he was a man with a lot of guts. He knew what he wanted and went for it.
We covered areas like:
- 1:00 Why she thinks relationship matters
- 1:58 How she met her husband
- 5:35 How long they dated for before getting married and what long courtship was like
- 9:22 Their financial struggles within the first few years of their marriage
- 11:40 How long they've been married at what it's been like
- 12:10 What keeps their relationship going and how they find time to bond as a couple without the kids suffering for it
- 17:08 Why she was convinced that her husband was the right person for her. She spoke extensively on the signs she saw from the love and affection he showered on her and still does till date to her not being judged, to the safety she feels knowing that he's always ready to protect her no matter the situation.
She also talked about how his family took her as one of their own further cementing their relationship and love for each other. She felt protected by her husband which was reassuring for her though initially a bit sceptical as she felt she was leaving her Dad's protective wings for the unknown.
- 23:00 Her words of advice for the singles. She encouraged them to take their time to study the person they intend to get married to and not rush into marriage. She also advised people that find themselves in unpleasant relationship or marriage situations to seek help because their happiness matters.
