When we find some one afflicted with some calamity or disease, we should say to protect ourselves and thank Allah for not afflicting us.

Alhamudu lillahil-ladhi afani mimmab-talaka bihi wa faddalani ala kathirim-mimman khalaqa tafdeela
(All praise is for Allah, Who saved me from what he has afflicted you with and favored me more than many others he created.)

We should say this to ourselves not to the person afflicted. And make dua for the one afflicted that may Allah relieve him or her of the affliction.
