Padma Chebrolu: Award-Winning Filmmaker and Traditional Dance Artist. She is an acclaimed filmmaker and traditional dance artist based in the U.S. Originally from Hyderabad, she pursued graduate studies in the U.S. and worked as an IT executive at a Fortune 50 company.
Her latest film, “Passage of the River,” set for release in December 2024, is a compelling narrative that delves into the deep connections between life, heritage, and the natural world along the historically rich Ohio River. The film celebrates both Ancient Indigenous and Indian cultures and highlights the importance of safeguarding our rivers for future generations. Combining elements of environmental, historical drama, and Bollywood musical, it aims to bridge cultural divides while delivering a vital environmental message.
Padma’s dance films from this project have collectively won around 30 international film festival awards, including accolades for Best Director, Best Nature, and Best Outstanding Social Impact Film, recognized across ten countries such as Costa Rica, Denmark, India, and the USA. These films showcase the beauty of the Ohio River and its surrounding neighborhoods, emphasizing the river’s crucial role in sustaining life. Through her art, Padma continues to inspire cross-cultural understanding and advocate for environmental stewardship.
