The Book of Esther tell us a remarkable story of faith and courage. In the twelfth year of Xerxes’ reign (474 BC), one of the king’s governors identified the Jews as a subversive element and planned their extinction. What was at stake? God's covenant people would be all but wiped out.
God rescued his people through the risky and loving intervention of Queen Esther. She revealed her Jewish identity and risked death in going to the king. The king received her with favor, spared her people, executed the governor, and God's sovereignty in history is demonstrated once again.
Esther's faith reminds us that we to need to answer the question: Why am I here in this present moment? Jesus called us to be like a city, set on a hill (Matthew5:14-16). We need to show God's goodness and kindness in this needy and broken world!
