Herod the Great was history’s first Grinch. Herod hated Christmas. He didn’t try to steal it. He tried to end it. Why? Because as evil and delusional as he was, Herod was keenly aware of the implications of Christ's birth. His strong reaction is evidence that he understood the meaning of Jesus’ birth. What’s your response to the birth of Christ? 

Herod hated Christmas because:

Christmas is treasonous. 
He didn't get a gift.
Christmas calls for surrender.

Because Herod hated Christmas he made sure others would suffer.
