EPISODE 30:
I’ve been seeing cardiologists since I was 14 years old. Back then, I passed out so often that doctors told me to drink pickle juice, tested me for pregnancy, or dismissed me as “anxious.” What they didn’t do was check my heart.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. Living with a chronic heart condition has shaped not only my daily life, but also the way I practice medicine today as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist.
In this episode, I share:
- My journey from teenage patient to physician with a diagnosis
- The stigma and disbelief women and young patients face in healthcare
- How I advocate for myself (and teach my patients to do the same)
- The lifestyle changes that keep me healthy
- Why choosing not to become pregnant was the right choice for me
- Why your doctor doesn’t have to “live your exact experience” to take great care of you
