In this episode Astrid Ferguson and Alexandra Hodge take a different angle at The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recent wide-ranging interview with Oprah, covering everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage and interracial relationship topics. We know this has been a hot topic but we wanted to discuss the underlining layer culture plays in interracial relationships.
We took some of our personal experiences to answer questions: how much of a role does culture play in relationships? When is a good time to discuss cultural norms and is it a make it or break it thing? What does being mixed mean in our society today and why is colorism still a thing? We share some of our experiences dealing with shaming and interracial relationships that involved prejudice within the BIPOC and Latino/x community.
Listen to our thoughts on this episode and why we think Harry leaving didn't fix their interracial relationship issues--only expanded it. As we are highly opinionated sisters with mixed children, either have or are in interracial relationsips, and come from blended families share some of our own complex observations. While this is not the holy grail of this conversation, we are certain it will spark some conversations both complex and controversial. Share your thoughts with us. We'd love to hear what you think on this hot topic.
