A #scrum #team consists of the #scrummaster, #productowner, and the developers or development team.  

Each of these roles are critical to the success of the scrum team and for successful product development but it's sometimes harder to understand why the Scrum Master plays such a critical role since they aren't responsible for delivery in any way.  

In much the same way that a coach plays a critical role in the development and success of a professional, elite athlete, a Scrum Master acts as the team coach and works toward creating an environment where others can succeed and continously improve.  

They are the glue that binds the scrum team together and often work outside of the scrum team to remove impediments within the organisation as a whole.  

John McFadyen has worked on some of the largest, most complex Agile transformations in the world. He has also actively coached thousands of scrum teams in a capacity of scrum master and Agile coach.
