The greatest mystics the human race has produced have all told us the same thing: happiness belongs to us. We already posses it. So then why is it so elusive? It is one of the most challenging health care issues of our time. Over 300 million people have depression globally and it costs the US $200B per year. In any given year, as many as 20% of workers will suffer from some form of debilitating anxiety or depression. Can all these wise masters of old all be wrong? Can Jesus and Lao Tzu, Mohammed and Buddha all be confused on this point? In Part one of these series we look at what these guys actually said and pick apart the message from the trappings of religion and we strip away the misleading elements that creep in as culture and context and word meanings change.
