Out Of The System

Why Men Think Power = Safety (And Why It Backfires)

Listen Later

Most people spend their lives operating inside systems they never chose… and don’t even realize they’re trapped in.

In this episode of the Out of the System Podcast, Brandon Boyd shares his deeply personal journey following a divorce at age 50 that forced him to confront a powerful question: 'Who am I?' What followed was an exploration into dating, masculinity, sexuality, and identity, and where he began to observe how fear, conditioning, and societal expectations shape behavior, especially in relationships between men and women.

Through experiences ranging from modern dating to exploring intimacy and personal development, we uncover a core truth: safety is the foundation of connection. We also dive into how identities are formed, why people resist change, and how stepping outside familiar systems can lead to deeper self-awareness, freedom, and personal transformation.

Brandon Boyd is a marketer, writer, and author of the upcoming book, Undomesticated: The Evolving Man’s Field Guide to Reclaim the Wild Within. His work is rooted in lived experience, using his own life as a testing ground to explore identity, masculinity, relationships, and personal growth.

Following a major life transition after divorce, Brandon began questioning everything, from societal systems and belief structures to how men relate to themselves and others. He describes himself as 'the guinea pig, not the guru,' sharing insights drawn from real-world experimentation, deep self-inquiry, and a willingness to step outside conventional paths.
