So many people
lead a life of death
afraid of their passing
into the great beyond
fear of the unknown
occupying their days
bringing a death to their lives
in so many ways.
Some trying to salvage their youth
refusing to grow old gracefully
but time is unstoppable for all of us
and so much of life is wasted by
trying to stand in it’s way.
Why not enjoy the ride?
grab a window seat
and just peruse
all the beauty that
life brings to you
without worry about
what will come due
Every line you bear,
every wrinkle shared
shows the younger folk
your wisdom earned
things that they have
not yet learned
in all their days
of unconcern.
Perhaps if you could
just be young again
only in your mind
but not of your flesh
no matter how
old you will grow
you would always
remain quite at peace
till the moment
your life must cease.
Living your life to it’s fullest
your mirrors only reflecting
what you want to see
but all that is unnecessary
nothing about your end
should cause you to be wary...
For I have seen
what near death brings
trapped in the grip
of a strangle hold
in the U.S. Marines
where my soul broke free
and it took wings
floating high above
my past body
till some kinder soul
then my attacker was
blew the breath of life into me
and I was back suddenly
to what I used to be.
Knowing for sure
there is more then just oblivion
beyond our four score and ten
and I no longer fear what’s to come
it is only a brief doorway
to what’s re-begun....
And life itself is never done
it just transforms us
to a higher being
but you can’t know
that without seeing
which requires you dying
and you already don’t
want to go there
which leaves you
making the choice
to just "believe me"
and why the hell would I lie
what profit can I gain
from telling you I almost died
but was revived….
except to renew
your own hopes
for your own lives.
Cause you are
not going to die
you are going to go on.....
so live every second
of your life
with joy and savor
even your fading years.
Cause you will not
pass this way again
but you will pass
on to something
far more wonderful my friends
because there is no end.
And do not rush that end
because I have no knowledge
of what happens to those
who cheat death’s plan for them
and bow out early
I can only tell you
what I experienced
in hopes that you
too will be blessed.
Godspeed to your
long and happy life
and I see you on the other side
when it is truly my time......
