  • Your Brain Is Looking for What You Tell It to Find

How many business opportunities are already around you that you simply aren't noticing?

Your brain is constantly filtering information, deciding what deserves your attention. In this episode of Why Not Today?, Leslie explores the Reticular Activating System, or RAS, and how getting specific about what you're looking for can help you notice more clients, referrals, connections and opportunities.

Leslie shares a simple example: when a real estate agent says her ideal client is “anybody,” it's difficult for others to know whom to refer. But when an agent specializes in helping families with probate properties or people navigating real estate after divorce, suddenly people know exactly what to listen and look for.

You'll also discover how social media works as a useful comparison to the RAS. Algorithms learn what gets your attention and begin showing you more related content. Being intentional about what you look for, talk about and engage with can turn social media from mindless scrolling into a valuable business tool.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • How the Reticular Activating System influences what you notice

    • Why getting specific about your ideal client can lead to better referrals

    • How your niche helps other people recognize opportunities for you

    • How to use social media more intentionally to find business opportunities

    • Why clarity and awareness still need to be followed by action

This week's Why Not Today? Challenge: Pick one thing you're looking for. Make it specific. Write it down. Each morning ask, “What am I looking for today?” Each evening ask, “What did I notice, and what am I going to do about it?”

The opportunities may already be around you. Get specific, notice them and take action.

  • Know Your Numbers: How to Grow Your Business with Less Guessing

Do you know the numbers behind your business goals, or are you hoping your activity eventually turns into clients?

Knowing that you want three new clients or a certain amount of revenue is a start, but a goal is not a plan. In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, Leslie Kane shares one of the most important lessons she learned during more than 30 years of building businesses: business is not magical, it’s mathematical.

Leslie shares how knowing her numbers helped her grow her Mary Kay business and how the same principle applies to service-based entrepreneurs today. She explains how to work backward from revenue to clients, offers, conversations, leads and visibility so you can see what is actually creating results. You’ll also learn how to use the Attract, Nurture and Convert process to identify where your business may be losing momentum.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • How to work backward from your revenue goal to determine the activity needed to reach it

    • Why being busy with networking and social media does not necessarily mean you are generating leads

    • How to track your Attract, Nurture and Convert activities

    • Why keeping a hot prospect list and consistently following up matters

    • How your numbers can show you where your client acquisition process needs attention

Leslie also shares the story behind the Why Not Today? Weekly Momentum Tracker and challenges you to track five numbers for the next four weeks: new leads, hot prospects, offers made, new clients and revenue.

Your numbers are information, not judgment. Learn your numbers, watch your patterns and use them to decide your next best step.

  • How to Build Client Relationships That Grow Your Business

What if one of your best strategies for growing your business has nothing to do with finding more leads?

In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, I’m sharing a lesson that has stayed with me through more than 30 years in business: relationships matter.

As I reflect on the 25th anniversary of September 11, I share what I learned about connecting with customers during a time when selling felt insignificant. That same lesson surfaced again during COVID. When circumstances changed, the answer was not to push harder for sales. It was to reach out, care about people, get creative, and stay connected.

Those experiences reinforced something I still believe today. The little things matter. Remembering someone's name, sending a birthday card, checking in after a life event, writing a handwritten note, sending a referral, or creating an unexpected personal touch can strengthen relationships and build know, like, and trust.

    In this episode, you'll hear:

    • Why your existing clients and relationships may hold more opportunities than you realize • What September 11 and COVID taught me about relationship based business • Simple ways to make clients feel remembered and valued • Why checking in without asking for a sale can build long term trust • How small details can help create repeat clients, referrals, and opportunities

Take a look at the people already around you. What is one small thing you could do today to make someone feel seen, remembered, or appreciated?

  • Are You an Undercover Agent in Your Own Business?

You may be networking, posting on social media, meeting new people, and building relationships, but if someone looks you up, can they quickly figure out what you actually do?

In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, Leslie talks about what it means to be an “undercover agent” in your own business and why you may not need more connections. The people already in your network may simply need to better understand what you do, who you help, and what makes someone a great referral for you.

Visibility doesn't mean constantly selling or becoming an influencer. It means making it easy for the right people to find you, know you, trust you, and remember you. Leslie shares why clarity is so important for referrals, how staying visible can create opportunities years later, and why you never know who may be watching and remembering what you do.

    In this episode, you'll hear:

    • Why you may not need more people, but need to become more visible to the people already around you
    • How the 10-second test can reveal whether your business is easy to understand
    • Why being specific about who you help makes it easier for others to refer you
    • How staying visible and top of mind can lead to clients, referrals, collaborations, and opportunities
    • Simple ways to make your social media profile easier to find, understand, and remember

    Take the Undercover Agent Audit

Look at your social media profile as if you met yourself yesterday. Can someone quickly tell:

    • Who you are
    • What you do
    • Who you help
    • Where they can learn more

Then look at your profile picture, bio, next-step link, cover photo, and recent content. Fix one thing today that makes your business easier to understand.

You started your business for a reason. Don't let it become the best-kept secret.

Remember, you don't have to have everything figured out. You just have to take the next best step and ask yourself...Why Not Today?

  • Who Is Your Perfect Client? Get Specific to Find the Right People

What if someone told you they could introduce you to your perfect client today? Would you be able to tell them exactly who to look for?

In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, Leslie shares how to get much more specific about the people you want to work with. Instead of trying to meet everyone, you'll learn how to identify the clients who value your expertise, are ready to invest, and are a great fit for you and your business.

    In this episode:

    • How to identify a past client you would happily clone
    • The life and business triggers that move someone from “I might need help someday” to “I need help now”
    • Why understanding what your clients value can help you recognize the right people
    • The difference between someone who needs your service and someone who is ready and willing to invest

Start by choosing one client you would happily clone and complete this statement:

My perfect client is ______ who is currently ______. They are struggling with ______ and want ______. They value ______ and are ready to invest because ______.

  • What the Heck Do I Post? Your Simple Content Toolbox

Do you ever open social media ready to post and suddenly think, “What the heck am I supposed to say?”

You may not need more content ideas. You may just need to start recognizing the content that is already happening around you.

In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, Leslie shares practical lessons from her Get Visible Challenge to help entrepreneurs stop overthinking social media content and build a simple Content Toolbox.

The goal is not to post constantly or create something completely new every day. Different posts have different jobs. Some show people what you do. Some teach. Some tell a story. Some help people get to know you. Others simply start a conversation.

Leslie also shares how one ordinary experience can become multiple pieces of content and why becoming more intentional about what you post can make social media feel simpler and more purposeful.

    In this episode, you'll hear:

    • How to recognize content in the things you're already doing
    • Five types of posts to keep in your Content Toolbox
    • How one idea can become multiple social media posts
    • Why you do not need to constantly create brand new content
    • How intentional visibility can lead to conversations, relationships, referrals, and clients
