Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed is a Swedish political scientist and author of Pakistani descent. He obtained a Ph.D. in Political Science from Stockholm University, where he is currently Professor Emeritus, having retired in 2010. During 2015-2019 he was Visiting Professor at the Government College University, Lahore, and in 2013-2015 he was Visiting Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He is an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore and was Visiting Research Professor at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS). He was also the Visiting Professor at the South Asian Studies Programme, the National University of Singapore from June 2007 to June 2010. He is also an Editor-in-General of the "Liberal Arts & Social Sciences International Journal (LASSIJ)"; a member of the editorial advisory boards of "Asian Ethnicity"; "Journal of Punjab Studies"; "IPRI Journal, Islamabad"; and "PIPS Research Journal of Conflict and Peace Studies, Islamabad.
On April 3, 2022, there was going to be voting in the National Assembly of Pakistan for the vote of no confidence against Pakistani Prime Minister Imran khan. This was the third time in the history of Pakistan that a vote of no confidence is presented against the prime minister in the National Assembly of Pakistan. But something unexpected happened. Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly rejected the vote of no confidence against the prime minister and soon after that prime minister Imran Khan dismissed the National Assembly and created a constitutional crisis in the country.
