God did not create everyone equal. There are plenty of really athletic people who rarely have to work to play professionally… and then there are some who have what it takes and still never hit the field… Hmmmm? Today we are talking about why smart people fail to succeed! 

Why smart people don’t succeed.

There are math geniuses who sell mattresses at the mall.

Computer geeks who work grub hub.

Brilliant surgeons living on the street panhandling 

Former CEO’s who now work selling phones at ATT mobile

I know lots of really really really smart people who live a life of semi disappointment… almost - shall I say it? Failure.

Not that any of these jobs if you work them are failures… my son who is a math wiz works for a verizon store… but albeit he loves his job and every year is top of the company in sales and has continually moved up the ladder in the company..

But my point is many truly smart people live dumb lives! 

Why?

They don’t realize that smarts aint enough. Here are just the first of 3 things smart people need to understand in order to actually live up to their potential. 

 #1 You gotta have a skills that pays the bills.

Sure you are smart… but do have a skill that warrants people lining up to hire you to use said skill. 

Some skills fix problems.. the bigger the fix the bigger the skill is needed and you get paid accordingly.

If you can fix a leaky pipe… you will get paid appropriately. 

Can you save a marriage? You will get paid appropriately.

Can you invest money to make someone millions? You will get paid appropriately. 

Can you perform brain surgery? You will get paid appropriately.

Failure comes when you think smarts equal skills. 

THEY IN FACT DO NOT! 

Does your skill help people enjoy life more?

Can you write a song a play a movie a code?

If you can write really good songs you can get paid really good. If you can write really good books you will get paid really good.

Your skill is your limit. 

To many smart people never put this together… they read book after book, get degree after degree but never actually achieve a high level skill. 

Many times we call these people teachers…

#2 you are ugly… no no no not looks. you are just an ugly person to be around. You have bad manners, you don’t act graciously, you cant say thank you, you cant apologize -your are just rude. You have a chip on your shoulder like everyone owes you because you are smart.

Guess what? people like dumb nice people… they don’t like rude smart people. How many smart people have undone their own potential because people just don’t want  to give them any breaks… because…well… they just don’t like them.

#3 unsuccessful smart people won’t shut up.

Many times smart people like to argue because they are smart and they know everything… ok, maybe you do… but we don’t care. We don’t want to be corrected every time we share our opinion. We would rather you just shut up, listen and share your opinion graciously without making us feel stupid or belittled. 

Really smart people who fail in life think they can impress others by showing them just how really smart they are. I will impress them by constantly correcting them, one upping them and letting them know how wrong they are when they talk.

You know why successful people rarely argue? it’s pretty simple actually… they are to busy getting things done. It is like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic… 

One of my pet peeves is when I am done preaching and someone comes up to correct my theology or argue a point of how they see scripture… and I ask them how many people have you won to Christ this week, month year? If they say none… well then I am done with you. Like Jesus did with the pharisees… in Mark… just walk away.
