See why IBHS is expressing serious concerns about North Carolina's building codes when it comes to hurricane readiness -- and why South Carolina continues to hold strong.

With the traditional start of hurricane season just weeks away, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) has released its Rating the States which report evaluates the 18 states along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, all vulnerable to catastrophic hurricanes, based on building code adoption, enforcement, and contractor licensing. In the report, published every three years, each state is rated on a 0–100 scale using data from responses to groups of questions related to different aspects of their building code programs.
