Here are the author's notes from this week's message:

Understanding Serpents Pt. 7

*- Just before Jesus sent His disciples out to minister, He gave them specific instructions:

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16 (KJV)

*- Serpents have extremely poor eyesight and cannot hear airborne sounds, so they can’t rely on those senses for awareness. Yet, they rarely miss what they’re meant to hit.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

[But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done].

1 John 3:8 AMPC

*- How well did we address the works of demonic principalities this week?

*- What are we to strike back with after demonic principalities present their works, like they did to Job?

Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

Job 1:20 KJV

*- We strike back and destroy the works of principalities by worshipping God.

*- So, just as serpents strike with nearly perfect precision, what are we aiming to strike?

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

*- Again, we strike the works of demons on all levels.

*- In terms of the evil forces we wrestle, who are the powers?

*- powers: the leading and more powerful among created beings—superior to humans.

6 It has been solemnly and earnestly said in a certain place, What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You graciously and helpfully care for and visit and look after him?

7 For some little time You have ranked him lower than and inferior to the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor and set him over the works of Your hands,

8 For You have put everything in subjection under his feet. Now in putting everything in subjection to man, He left nothing outside [of man’s] control. But at present we do not yet see all things subjected to him [man].

9 But we are able to see Jesus, Who was ranked lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because of His having suffered death, in order that by the grace (unmerited favor) of God [to us sinners] He might experience death for every individual person.

Hebrews 2:6-9 AMPC

*- Yes, angels and demons (former angels) are superior to humans, and that is what puzzlingly scares

Christians. Of course, any unarmed human will succumb to any demon, which is why Paul commanded us to arm ourselves with the whole armor of God.

Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11 AMPC

*- We strike back and destroy the works of powers by putting on and using the whole armor of God.

Lifework Assignment: Ask the Holy Spirit to help your immediate responses to demons align precisely with what God has instructed, so that your actions fully please Him and you’ll have success at each encounter.

Expected Behavior: God wants our trust anchored in His strength working through our lives, not in the strength of the problems we face.
