This is the first year that June 10 has been recognized as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. The UN resolution, proposed by China and adopted by the UN General Assembly last year, was established to recognize the importance of dialogue in "eliminating discrimination and prejudice, enhancing understanding and trust, promoting people-to-people connectivity, and strengthening solidarity and cooperation." Why is civilizational dialogue "more urgent than ever"? What motivated China to propose the idea? How can this UN resolution help tackle global crises?
Guests in this episode of Dialogue are Jorge Heine, former Chilean Ambassador to China; Victor Gao Zhikai, chair professor at Soochow University; and David Bartosch, distinguished research fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai.
