Enrique Dans for dummies

Why there’s no such thing as a “patriotic” iPhone

Listen Later

Enrique Dans's article analyzes why manufacturing iPhones in the USA, as proposed by some, is economically and logistically impractical.

The author argues that Apple's global supply chain in Asia provides cost advantages, specialized labor, and efficient infrastructure that the US currently lacks.

Forcing domestic production through tariffs would significantly increase the iPhone's price, harming consumer purchasing power and Apple's competitiveness.

Dans details the challenges across labor costs, supply chain complexities, industrial infrastructure, tariff impacts, production flexibility, political uncertainties, and industry specialization.

He concludes that relocating iPhone production to the US at a reasonable cost is currently unfeasible, suggesting a simplification of the issue by those unfamiliar with the complexities.
