On Monday, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange appeared at a London courthouse to fight extradition to the United States where he faces accusations of hacking and breaches of the Espionage Act. These hearings will determine whether Assange, who published top secret communications by the U.S. government, will continue to be held in custody and where. His case is being described as pivotal moment for the future of the free press and free speech in the U.S. Today, we’re joined by Stephen Rohde, a constitutional lawyer and former chair of the Southern California branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, who explains how we got here and what’s at stake.
