This is Series 2 of interviews with Neil Bauman, Ph.D. who is a hearing loss care specialist, author, researcher and has lived successfully with a lifelong hereditary hearing loss. Dr. Neil has spoken coast to coast in the US and in Canada on the topic of tinnitus and has a simple solution to distract the brain from hearing the buzzing, ringing, dinging, roaring sounds that can drive one to the brink.
He also tells why it is best to use International Phonetic Alphabet spelling rather than make something up that you can relate to. The military and pilots only use because there are just two words that might sound slightly alike and the rest are very distinct. See show notes for a couple of great resources.
Musical ear syndrome is also called Adophenia. It is not a psychiatric disease but rather one of hearing impairment where one is hearing voices. Dr. Bauman is the person who coined the wording musical ear syndrome. If you start hearing music from say the heater at home then check out this possibility and you might need to educate your physician with the two links provided below as usually, the patient is diagnosed with psychosis and give psychotic medication. Many psychotic medications are ototoxic (ear toxic) and further damage your ear organs.
Lip reading is watching the lips move and figuring out what the person is saying by the movement of the lips. Speechreading is watching the entire body to see what "emotions are expressed." Speechreading is similar to body language, which is used in mirroring effects with neurolinguistics that was made famous by Tony Robbins.
