Hey everybody — this is Duke Teynor, and today we’re talking about somethingevery songwriter and music artist needs to hear — and that is:
You can’t just release music anymore.
You’ve gotta show the music.
And that means video.
Not music videos.
Not expensive productions.
Just real, human, everyday video.
Because in today’s world, video is the stage.
TikTok is the stage.
YouTube Shorts is the stage.
Instagram Reels is the stage.
Facebook Clips is the stage.
If you're not on video — you're invisible.
And I know that sounds harsh — but it’s the truth.
Music doesn’t spread because a song is good.
Music spreads because:
And video is how they connect to that person.
I hear that all the time.
And listen — I get it.
Not everybody wants to pose or perform or act smooth in front of a lens.
But here’s the good news:
You don’t have to.
Video today is not about perfection.
It’s about presence.
The shake in your voice?
That’s honesty.
The pause before you sing?
That’s vulnerability.
The crack in your tone?
That’s authenticity.
That’s what people remember.
Here’s the playbook — write this down:
1) Lyric Clips
Point the camera at your face.
Say one line from your song that means something.
Not the whole song.
One line.
“I wrote this when I was hurting.”
Say it.
Feel it.
Let them feel it.
2) Story Behind the Song
This is where connection is built.
Example:
“I wrote this on a night when I felt like I lost everything.”
That line alone will make people listen differently.
3) Studio Moments
Raw. Unpolished.
Phone camera.
No effects.
People want to watch the making of the music — not just thefinished track.
4) Acoustic / Stripped Down Versions
You + one instrument.
Close mic.
Low lighting.
No perfection — just soul.
This is where Jelly Roll wins.
This is where Zach Bryan wins.
This is where authenticity becomes magnetic.
5) Duets / Collab Clips
Invite the audience to sing with you.
Duet feature on TikTok.
Stitch feature on Instagram.
Your audience wants to feel involved — not just informed.
