Why we are conspiratorial: Understanding the attraction

Listen Later

Chapter 3: Why We Are Conspiratorial

In this chapter, we move beyond asking why conspiracies exist and begin to ask a far more uncomfortable question: why are we so drawn to them? Not just culturally, not just politically, but personally and spiritually.

Conspiracy thinking does not thrive only because information is hidden. It thrives because something inside the human heart is being pulled. Pride, fear, insecurity, loss of trust, the need to feel informed, protected, or superior—these forces quietly shape how we interpret the world. Even sincere believers can confuse vigilance with wisdom, suspicion with discernment, and intensity with spiritual depth.

In this episode, we will explore the inner drivers behind conspiratorial thinking: the desire to feel wise, the instinct to protect ourselves, the temptation to escape responsibility, and the subtle addiction to constant discovery. We will also confront how conspiracies can become substitutes for obedience, intimacy with God, and simple faith.

This chapter is not an accusation; it is an invitation. An invitation to self-examination, humility, and healing. Because until we understand why we are drawn to conspiracies, we will continue to be shaped by them—often at the expense of our peace, our witness, and our Christlikeness.

Let’s go deeper.
