Why We Can Trust the Bible

Listen Later

Guests Lead Pastor Phil Hopper, Pastor Ed Croteau, and host Les Norman, take us through more reasons on why we can trust our Bible, based on secular historians.
One of the key tools in verifying any piece of literature is to examine other pieces of literature around the same time historically.
When reading about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus in our bibles, we’re filled with awe of our King, and belief in our hearts. Our faith grows even stronger when we read of secular historians, non-believers outside of the Bible, who authenticate what we read in the gospels!
A governor of Bithynia in Rome, Pliny the Younger wrote a letter to the emperor explaining how Christians were worshipping Jesus as the one true God, and not Cesar. In his writing, he states how he would gather Christians together in front of a statue of Cesar and threaten them with death if they chose not to bow. Many were martyred for their faith in Jesus.
Another Roman historian Tacitus, who authored the Annals of Rome, writes in the 60’s A.D. about waves of Christians, who believe radically in the Christ, who lived, was nailed to a cross, died, and rose again.
“The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church” The church stands on the shoulders of giants, the early Christians who gave their lives so that we can read the Bible today. The more blood that was shed the more Christianity spread. Let this be an inspiration to us Christians today, to be bold in our faith, to love God, and never back down from standing on the truth.
