Have you ever tried to fix your mistakes on your own but felt like it still wasn’t enough?
Most people have.
When we do something wrong, our first instinct is to try to make it right. We say, “I’ll do better next time.” We try to be kinder. We try to help others. We try to be a good person.
And those things are good. But they cannot solve the real problem.
The problem is not just what we do. The problem is sin.
Sin separates us from God. And no matter how hard we try, we cannot remove it by ourselves.
Many people believe that if they do enough good things, they will be accepted by God. They think if their good outweighs their bad, everything will be okay.
But the Bible teaches something different.
It says in Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8 and 9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works, lest any man should boast.”
That means we are not saved by what we do.
We are saved by what God has done.
Think about it this way. If you owed a debt you could never pay, no amount of small payments would be enough. The only way that debt could be cleared is if someone else paid it for you.
That is exactly what Jesus did.
We cannot earn forgiveness. We cannot work our way back to God. We cannot make ourselves perfect.
Even our best efforts fall short.
The Bible says in Isaiah chapter 64 verse 6, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags…”
That means even our good works are not enough to remove sin.
This may sound discouraging, but it actually leads to good news.
If we cannot save ourselves, then salvation must come from somewhere else.
And it does.
God made a way.
He sent His Son, Jesus.
Jesus lived a perfect life. He never sinned. Then He went to the cross and took the punishment for sin.
He did what we could not do.
The Bible says in Titus chapter 3 verse 5, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”
Salvation is not something we earn. It is something we receive.
It is a gift.
But like any gift, it must be accepted.
You cannot earn it. You cannot buy it. You can only receive it by faith.
That means trusting Jesus completely.
Not trusting yourself. Not trusting your efforts. Trusting Him.
You may feel like you need to fix your life before coming to God.
But the truth is, you come to God first—and He begins to change your life.
You do not clean yourself up and then come to Jesus.
You come to Jesus, and He cleans you.
If you are waiting until you feel “good enough,” you will be waiting forever.
Because no one is good enough.
That is why we need a Savior.
And that Savior is Jesus.
If you feel something in your heart right now, that is God calling you.
You do not have to wait.
You do not have to fix everything first.
You can come to Jesus just as you are.
You can pray this:
Jesus, I know I have sinned. I believe You died for me and rose again. Please forgive me. Come into my life and save me. I trust You as my Savior. Amen.
If you just prayed that and meant it, the Bible says in Romans chapter 6 verse 23, “…the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
That means you are saved.
Not because of what you have done, but because of what Jesus has done.
You could not save yourself.
But Jesus came to save you.
And today, you can receive that gift.
