Be Inspired Towards Your Success

Why we take things personally

Listen Later

Do you remember the last time when you felt terrible about yourself when someone pointed at your mistakes?
Do you think about your mistakes often?
Does someone else's opinion matter more for you than your own?
With the increasing amount of information overload happening over social media and the internet, we are not short of knowledge. Some people will always be ready to point out your mistakes, criticize you and feel proud to have the upper hand in any conversation.
If we keep listening to others and base our judgements and decisions on other's opinions, we will never be able to have a fulfilling and happy life.
Society has advanced to a point where whatever possessions you have, someone else will always have more. Moreover, our inability to handle such comparisons makes it harder for us to be contented.
It's important to note that people have no interest in you. They are merely reflecting their state of mind. When they say something, it usually is about how they think and act. If your actions don't match their thinking, some people will go out of their way to make it known.
Unless you are taking feedback from someone who has seen your rise and fall, your ups and downs and been with you on your journey, there is very little reality in what others say.
Remember that negative emotions are a way for us to know that we are not moving in the right direction. They are Universe's guide for us to focus on happiness, satisfaction and fulfilment.
If you take things personally, you should remember that everyone is fighting their own battles. The negative feedback from others is not to make you sad, angry or in any negative state. It's a sign that you have to think and act differently.
What if your negative emotions could become a trigger for you to change?
What if you could use your negative emotions to move forward faster towards your goals?
What can you do:
* Practice gratitude. Be thankful to all the people in your lives. They are there for a reason.
* Practice focusing on your awareness. How much time are you spending being present in the negative state, and how can you get away from it?
* Practice self-guided meditation and mindfulness exercises. There are hundreds of them available free online, and it doesn't take more than 5 minutes each day.
We all get impacted by negative self-talk and negative feedback. How we recover and use it for our success and motivation can be the difference.
