Monetize your podcast any way you see fit, it's your show. However, if you are serious about turning your podcast into a money-making adventure, I would recommend creating a sales funnel/lead magnet to sell a product or service related to your podcast niche FIRST while building up your email list. Then, use your podcast to provide massive value to solve problems and grow your audience. In other words, start your podcast "business" and start monetizing now...not the other way around hoping to grow your audience first and then monetize. Also, although sponsors are fine, inspire them to come to you because you have a growing business....don't worry about playing the downloads stat game hoping to land a sponsor.
