Actress Marissa Bode journaled in character as Nessarose to help her prepare for the role in the two-part Wicked film adaptation. Bode has discussed in interviews how she used journaling to develop a deeper understanding of her character, especially regarding the character's emotional journey and transformation in Wicked: For Good. She explained that she wanted to "fill in the blanks" between the first and second films to understand what causes Nessarose's character to switch and become "more ruthless".
