Publisher's Summary:
When Paula finds her husband's shameful secrets on his mobile phone, and Facebook puts her teenage daughter at the centre of a high-school scandal, she does the only thing that makes sense to her: she runs away from it all.
Taking her kids and elderly father, she heads off on a road trip across Australia with one rule: no technology allowed. It's time to get back to basics, reclaim her life and learn how to be a family again.
Critic Reviews:
"Higgins looks at the difficult moment of becoming parents with an unflinching but powerful humanity.... A top-shelf novel about contemporary Australian life." (The Weekend Australia on The Mothers' Group)

Far fetched, quite silly but original trip around South-West Australia
I did not love this book. There were some really stellar ideas about how couples can drift away from each other and in the beginning the online bullying of the teenage daughter was interesting (but not really pursued) however there were so many ridiculous plot twists that it completely lost me.
In the story Paula is a long -suffering control freak wife whose husband Hamish works to support the family. They have two teenage children in private school in Melbourne. Paula is called into school one day as a disturbing facebook post about their daughter has been posted. On the same day Hamish injures himself and ends up in hospital where Paula finds out he has been having an online affair. Paula then leaves him in hospital and packs the kids and her father into a caravan for a trip around Australia. So far so good really except the teenagers then morph into pretty much perfect children, she meets a spunky Brazilian backpacker and her father wins big on the Melbourne Cup and saves a animal shelter in Adelaide and it only gets more far fetched from there as Hamish heads off in pursuit of his family as well.
The best thing about the book is definitely the descriptions of the travel. Made me want to buy a caravan and start circumnavigating Australia as well
It was okay
I didn't enjoy this book as much as The Mother's Group. Found it a bit slow and a touch unrealistic at times.

A bit of a rambling book at times and a little unrealistic towards the end. I got the feeling the author ran out of twists and turns and finished the last section of the book in a bit of a rush.
Good holiday read
Good holiday read, found the story to be a fairly light but enjoyable read. I enjoyed it especially as I read it while on holiday to Melbourne and drove part of the great ocean road seeing some of the places mentioned.
I also liked how it made me think about the important parts of relationships and parenting.
Great Aussie story.
This book had me engaged right from page 1 ! I couldn't stop reading. An excellent novel for parents of teenagers, anyone who has dreamed of an extended road trip, or had issues with social media and its impact on families. A great holiday read!
