A series of robberies has rocked the island of Gorsemoor, all centred around the same block of shops. When two witnesses disagree over whether the thief wore a duck or goose mask, the town becomes divided. Hired by florist Nel Winslow, Laura investigates the crimes and uncovers a long-buried feud between the rival Dunstan-Pennington and Thornycroft families—while the mask debate threatens to overshadow the real mystery.
