Wild Kinship with Heather & Whitney episodes

  • Magic Toothpaste

This week we discussed how Whitney increased sales at the final craft show layering sigils, moon water, & an herbal sachet.

Building on the discussion of folk magic practices we discuss working with ancestors, symbolism of heirlooms, & the ways spirit still communicates with us after death.

Looking back at September astrology Whitney tells how the spiritual nudges got her attention when she thought she was listening.

We heard the feedback when it comes to astrology. October shows more heightened energy. This time we broke it down with more beginner friendly basics to understand terminology and really help build an understanding of transit energy.

October calls for an implementation of new systems when the old are clearly not working. Heather gives a great example of real life changes with screentime and routines. The session ran over before we got to highlight all of the astrological and folk magic events for October. Jump over and join our Patreon to hear about the New Moon in Libra, Full Moon in Taurus, & celebrating Samhain with traditional rituals.

  • Consuming Content Creators or Facing Momster: The Final Boss

On this episode we explore the dynamics of online spiritual communities. The rules, structures, and process for finding quality teachers, asking for help, and dealing with conflict. The online spiritual communities of social media host a variety of practitioners as well as people in various states of deconstruction. Knowing who to listen to is hard and how to navigate trolls, virtue signaling, egotism, and straight up grifters all require learning discernment.

The heavy subject matter takes a breather when the conversation takes a momentary side quest towards nostalgia. Cool beans, on Fleek, NOT!

Since Heather isn't on social media Whitney attempts to relate the issue to real life communities, but Heather isn't giving them much awareness. With 4 under 10, even in those communities Heather is focused on her kids over social dynamics. Whitney reshapes the scenario towards Heather's family as an example of community and the result is nothing short or genius! How do you handle a disrupter when everyone has the right to belong and no one has authority....wake up the Momster! A technique that creates a spectacle or absurdity to break the tension rather than using shame to lecture.

The conversation takes a slight curve. Tell us, if you have sisters, did you all get physical?

Back to the online communities, Whitney asks, what do you do when there is no source of authority in the community. Heather's answer: let them be wrong. But what if they are still influential? That's where personal accountability comes in around fact checking, boundaries, and knowing when to walk away from a creator. We're all human being's having a human experience, but when a creator's journey starts to negatively impact your mental health, you still have a responsibility to protect your own peace.

The conversation then goes towards self regulation of emotions and Whitney explains embracing her spicy energy in therapy. Then, she gets candid about conspiracy thinking and grounding thought patterns in reality.

Heather is there once again to serve some humble pie as Whitney gets tongue tied, confused, and reminded that perfection is boring. "Don't consume content creators— That's cannibalism!"

The episode winds down as we discuss acknowledging qualifications and how the em-dash isn't a sign of ChatGPT, but an expression of the ADHD train of thought. Heather adds, "by the way, that's also a trauma response" to kick off Whitney's favorite game: Is it ADHD or Trauma???

  • Processing Trauma & Eating Elephants

On this episode we dive into our memories of 9/11 and the long term effects of trauma on the nervous system.

Whitney gives a breakdown of recent September astrology. 9/9 Portal, New Moon in Virgo, and breaking stress cycles.

"Uta-lace" What's that you ask? That's Whitney getting tongue tied in real time exemplifying the mental pile up of navigating daily life. Heather couldn't pass up the moment; breaking the tension of the topic with humor.

The conversation then leads into rewiring the nervous system— learning to eat the elephant one bite at a time to reduce overwhelm.

ADHD takes over and the conversation makes it's way towards how the brain searches for data to create patterns for survival. From there we got lost in the weeds as we discussed the area of medical discernment. The importance of connecting with the right professionals and knowing how to stop yourself from spiraling when the brain throws up a red flag to being dismissed.

We brought it back around when we discussed little daily rituals we do to stay grounded and retrain the nervous system in a world of daily stimuli.

A large part of rewiring your system is understanding your own default tendencies. We explore this further as Whitney gives a brief breakdown into understanding how to read your birth chart. We focused mainly on the 1st house in astrology, the 3 decans, the evolution of degree theory, and understanding that everyone has their own blueprint.
