This Weeks Podcast is all about a question that comes up all the time on our Tours…”What Wildlife is in Hawaii?” Trust us…A LOT of Wildlife exists in Hawaii. Indigenous and invasive species cover the 11 climates of the world here in Hawaii. All of the TRUE indigenous species to Hawaii however, long before man came, had been those who flew to Hawaii…Birds and those how had been carried here, by floating debris may it be by coconuts or drift wood.
Hawaii has had it’s share of invasive species coming in and pushing out the indigenous ones…from Plants, flowers and fruit trees to Wildlife like the Wild Boar or Feral Goat as well as the Mongoose which was brought in to remove the Feral Rats brought over on boats.
It’s important to protect the indigenous plant life of Hawaii. To bring back the indigenous species of plants, flowers and fruits will ensure the indigenous wildlife remains here…If you lose what the indigenous wildlife eat and use (fruits, flowers, trees and plants) then you lose the Wildlife as well…Hawai’i Nei is truly a circle of life and it’s sad that man has done such destructive and irreversible damage to it over a few hundreds when it took millions of years to create these amazing species in the first place.
Many local species are at war with the ones MAN has brought in, but what is the worst of them all is MAN themselves…for man has not only brought over all the INVASIVE species of animals and Plants…but they themselves have caused the most DESTRUCTION across the Hawaiian landscape of them all…FAR BEYOND all the invasive species combined…It truly makes you think…The Hawaiians never did create issues with Hawaii…they always lived off the land…they lived Pono…they took care of it and always gave back what they took…they had a system, a sacred system called the “KAPU” a system we today have forgotten.
