Episode Outline
These questions and more are addressed in this episode of The Global Gambit, as your host, Pyotr, interviews Zongyuan Zoe Liu, the international political economy fellow of the esteemed Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), focusing on global financial markets, development finance and emerging markets (EMEs) and obtaining her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins SAIS, including teaching Pyotr in one semester. Zoe released her first major analysis on BRIC de-dollarisation in Feb 2022.
Pyotr is joined by co-host Tao Tan, in the first half, where Tao challenges Zoe on areas concerning China's economic statecraft, SWIFT, or a Russia-China bloc, before Pyotr expands into the impact of Russia's invasion on the Kuril Islands, a potential Taiwan campaign and more. In the second half, the audience raises questions covering how China's BRI may be affected, as well as the possibility of vassalisation of Russia and Balkanisation of its trade or tech industries.
