Last year, behind rookie catcher Adley Rutschman, the Baltimore Orioles made a push for the Wild Card and finished with a winning record for the first time since 2016.

Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox stumbled to a losing record for the first time over a full 162-game season since 2015. This allowed the Orioles to shed the shame of being a last place team for the first time in awhile. Now they look to battle it out again, as each team hopes to make a surprise postseason appearance in 2023.
