Willard approves allowing larger accessory building on larger lots

Willard City Council voted Thursday to amend the city’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance, allowing for larger detached units on bigger lots. The changes, which were recommended by the planning commission, are intended to provide more flexibility for property owners while maintaining zoning standards. An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a secondary residential unit located on the same lot as a primary home. ADUs can be attached—meaning they share a wall with the main house, such as a basement apartment or an addition over a garage—or detached from the main structure, such as a small cottage or guesthouse.
