Both films are based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl, but they take very different approaches to the story. The 1971 version became a cult classic with unforgettable songs, Gene Wilder’s iconic performance, and a magical sense of mystery. Decades later, the 2005 remake reimagined the chocolate factory with wild visuals, darker humour, and a more faithful adaptation of Dahl’s original book.

Mart and Trev break down the performances, the Oompa Loompas, the factory designs, the songs, and the biggest differences between the films, asking whether the remake improves the story or whether the original still holds the golden ticket.
