Surf's up, beach lovers! We've got some serious wave action brewing along the Carolina coastline today. Hold onto your sunscreen because this forecast is bringing the heat and some gnarly conditions.
Starting in Pender County, Surf City and Topsail Beach are looking at a moderate rip current risk that'll keep lifeguards on their toes. Expect southwest winds cranking at 15 to 20 miles per hour, pushing waves between 1 to 3 feet. The UV index is screaming very high, so slather on that protection! Water's sitting around a chilly 60 degrees, but the air temperature will warm up to the upper 70s with mostly sunny skies.
Sliding down to New Hanover's beaches like Wrightsville and Carolina Beach, similar vibes are happening. Moderate rip current risk, southwest winds around 20 mph, and surf heights between 1 to 2 feet. Partly sunny turning full sunshine later, with temperatures in the mid 70s.
Brunswick County's beaches are where things get spicier. East of Ocean Isle Beach, we're looking at a high rip current risk with waves climbing 2 to 4 feet. Water temperatures are creeping up to the upper 60s, and those southwest winds are still howling.
Heading into South Carolina, Horry County's beaches are expecting moderate to high rip current risks. North of Myrtle Beach, waves could reach 3 to 5 feet, while southern beaches will see slightly smaller swells.
Georgetown's coastal areas round out our forecast with moderate rip current risks and 1 to 3 foot waves. Temperatures will hover in the mid 70s with mostly sunny conditions.
Bottom line: Strong longshore currents, moderate to high rip current risks, and plenty of sunshine mean you'll want to stay alert and have a blast - but always swim near a lifeguard and respect those ocean conditions!
