Surf Report - Wilmington NC

Wilmington NC, Surf City and Topsail Beach Surf Report for 05-03-2025

Listen Later

Surfers and beach lovers, grab your boards and sunscreen because we've got a sizzling weekend forecast rolling in! Today's looking like a stunner with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the upper 70s. The surf is sitting at a mellow 1 to 2 feet, perfect for beginners and longboarders looking to catch some smooth rides.

But hold onto your rashguards, because Sunday's bringing some serious ocean attitude! We're tracking a moderate to high rip current risk across the coastal zones, with surf heights ramping up to 2 to 5 feet. Expect mostly cloudy conditions with scattered showers and a solid chance of thunderstorms rolling through. South winds will be howling around 15 miles per hour, creating some exciting wave conditions for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Water temperatures are hovering around a comfortable 70 degrees, so you'll be fine with a light wetsuit or spring suit. Just be extra cautious with those rip currents - they're no joke this weekend. The longshore current is running strong from south to north, which means you'll want to stay alert and pick your entry and exit points carefully.

UV index is blasting into the very high category, so seriously - don't skimp on the sunscreen. Reapply every couple of hours and consider a rashguard for extra protection.

Looking ahead to Monday and Tuesday, conditions mellow out with decreasing winds and slightly smaller surf. Wednesday promises a calm, partly sunny day with minimal wave action.

Stay safe, stay stoked, and enjoy the coastal magic!
