Win The Day Or Let The Day Win You

Listen Later

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about the interesting experience he had that day driving into the city to have a meal with a friend who was leaving the country and another one just arriving back in the country, and the pressure he created by imagining he was late.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • In my mind, I was running late because I had an event to go to in the evening and I had a haircut booked in. All of a sudden, I found myself under a bit of pressure. What’s important to realise is that I’m creating this pressure and when you say it like that it sounds crazy, but you don’t think of it that way. Your mind thinks that the world is unfolding in a way that is working against you, but that’s untrue.
  • I decided to swim rather than go to the gym, and I already had to cut the swim short, then the guy at the pool asked me if I had a swimming cap. I wanted to strike and show my frustration, who is he to tell me I can’t swim, I pay a membership, I’m a good member. Now I can’t swim or go to the gym and I’d been looking forward to this session and I noticed I was starting to blame him. I could have gone down a dark thought path and blame him (why not? He’s right here in front of me and is stopping me), but that’s not the truth, the truth is I’m looking for someone to blame because I don’t want to accept responsibility myself.
  • I was allowed to use the sauna and while I was in there I decided that there was nothing stopping me from doing my gym workout there. I was completely unprepared to go to the gym, even though I thought I was, but the outcome I got was down to my awareness of allowing the day to spiral and go into a bad mood or I could win the day by changing my perception. I came out of the gym feeling invigorated, I got to my haircut on time and I got to my event on time. My day could have been so different.

BEST MOMENTS

‘It’s sad that we’re willing to let our ego win the day and blame someone for our own misgivings/shortcomings. Take the power back.’
‘I can make this a bad day. Instead, because I have a heightened sense of awareness, I was able to notice this conversation going on in my head and where it was going to lead me.’
‘Awareness is a practice. How much dedication and commitment you are willing to put to that practice will determine your results.’

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
