If you like red wines that are bold and tannic you need to give Nebbiolo a go, especially from it's spiritual home, Northern Italy’s Piedmont region. Here the grape produces powerful wines, packed with tannins, they are full in body and go under the names of Barolo and Barbaresco, 2 of Italy’s most famous and pricey wines. 

If you are on a budget, there are plenty of affordable entry-level styles of Nebbiolo from throughout Italy and the world to try. 

Today it is all about Grenache, Garnacha, Cannonau 

A grape variety that features in all the major wine countries, France, Italy, Spain, US and Australia. Grenache shines in all these places, it may be blended with another variety, Grenache in the winery is a team player and really works well with other varieties like Shiraz, Mataro and Tempranillo however it can also steal the spotlight and go solo and make beautiful red wines in an array of styles.
