From the market close on April 17th to the close on April 25th, the best-performing asset classes and sectors were:

  • Bitcoin led the gains, rallying 12.5% over the week and overtaking gold in performance.
  • The NASDAQ-100 Index, weighted heavily toward technology companies, rose 6.4%.
  • Latin American equities advanced 6.2%, making them the third-best performer.
  • The MSCI China Index posted a 5.3% gain.
  • Most other major equity indexes also finished the week in positive territory.

    • The lagging sectors during the same period were:

    • West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, which declined 0.6%.
    • Gold, which fell 0.5%.
    • The U.S. Dollar Index, which remained nearly unchanged.
    • Fixed income sectors saw modest gains, with average returns below 2%.

      • Year-to-Date (YTD) Performance Highlights:

      • Gold remains the top-performing asset, up 24% year-to-date.
      • Latin American equities are up 17.9%.
      • MSCI Europe has gained 15.3%.
      • MSCI China has advanced 12.8%.

        • On the downside (YTD):

        • The Russell 2000 Index (U.S. small-cap stocks) is down 12.2%.
        • Oil has declined 10%.
        • The NASDAQ-100 remains lower by 7.4% year-to-date.
