A report into the racing industry has recommended sweeping changes to revitalise what it says is a flagging industry.
The Racing Minister delivered a report last night with 17 recommendations for the industry, which include halving the number of race tracks, increasing prize money and building three all-weather tracks.
Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters told Mike Hosking small town clubs are already dying and the report will help them survive.
"That might mean racing at another club's course, they are doing it all over the world so it might be time to start doing it here."
