Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters supports a cannabis referendum. 

Winston Peters has reacted to a new survey, which shows strong support for reform. 

He told Mike Hosking this morning that it should be up to the public, not politicians to decide whether a change is needed.

"I've been asked in campaigns what do you think about this and I've said to the people that have asked the questions, we're going to give you a referendum and we'll have a two-year debate about it, the pros and cons".
