Watching the Winter Olympics, I had to wonder: Are these the folks that President Trump and the nativist wing of the GOP say we should be afraid of? Legal immigrants who raise hard-working kids who grow up to win all the medals? Like Chloe Kim, the 17—year-old snowboarder who won the gold medal in the women’s half-pipe this week; Kim’s parents were born in South Korea and emigrated to the United States two decades ago. Or 24-year-old Mirai Nagasu -- the daughter of Japanese immigrants who leapt into the record books in the figure skating team competition when she became the first American in Olympic history to pull off a triple axel jump. Americans need to stop being afraid of immigrants -- and start being grateful for them.
