Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Utah Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th.
Step outside and you'll feel 42 degrees. Feels mild, right? Don't be fooled. Utah's about to split into three completely different days.
**Up along the Wasatch Front**, rain starts light at 8 A.M. By 8 P.M., it's steady — 94 percent chance, so yeah, it's happening. You'll hit 54 degrees around 4 P.M., then things get wild. Thunderstorms roll in after 2 A.M. And stick around through Wednesday afternoon. Winds shift southeast to south around 11 A.M., just to keep you guessing. By Wednesday, expect thunderstorms before 5 P.M. And highs near 56. Thursday finally gives you a break — mostly sunny, 55 degrees.
**Down in Southern Utah**, it's a completely different planet. Bone dry. Sunshine all day. You'll cruise to 71 degrees by 5 P.M. — that's nearly 27 degrees warmer than the north. Overnight lows only dip to 46. By Wednesday, you're flirting with 76. Friday? 78 degrees. Practically spring break weather down there.
**In the mountains**, winter's throwing a tantrum. A Winter Weather Advisory runs from 8 A.M. Today through 5 P.M. Wednesday for elevations above 8,000 feet. Expect 6 to 16 inches of heavy, wet snow — up to 18 in the Bear River Range. Winds gust to 80 miles an hour along ridgelines. That's dangerous. Snow levels start at 6,500 feet, rise to 10,000 overnight. Avalanche danger is extreme. Check the Utah Avalanche Center before you head out.
Looking ahead: Thursday through Saturday, the Wasatch Front dries out with mid-50s. Southern Utah pushes 80 degrees by Saturday. Another storm system eyes Sunday, bringing rain and snow back north.
One bright spot: we're gaining 2 minutes and 38 seconds of daylight today. Sunrise at 7:10 A.M., sunset at 6:13 P.M.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
